Aliens: Fireteam Elite tasks you and a team of tough and scrappy squadmates to deal with an infestation of bloodthirsty Xenomorphs. You are able to play solo with a couple of AI buddies or you can team up in online multiplayer while completing a host of missions. Playing out as a tactical 3rd person shooter, Aliens: Fireteam Elite has plenty of content to sink your teeth into.
Fortunately, there are plenty of games that offer a similar experience to that of Aliens: Fireteam Elite whether that be due to a similar vibe and setting or a similar gameplay style. If you find yourself ready to move on from the sci-fi craziness of Aliens: Fireteam Elite then consider checking out any of the following games.
8 Left 4 Dead 2
Left 4 Dead 2 is easily one of the best multiplayer co-op shooters, full stop. Although a new game hasn't been released in the venerable series, apart from the spiritual successor, Back 4 Blood, Left 4 Dead 2 still remains a thoroughly enjoyable zombie shooting game.
What makes Left 4 Dead 2 truly remarkable is the constantly challenging and ever-evolving AI Director which augments the gameplay on the fly depending on how good or bad you and your team are doing at any given time. If for some reason you missed out on Left 4 Dead 2 then make sure to remedy that right away.
7 Payday 2
Payday 2 is a long-running four-player co-cop shooter where you team up as either Dallas, Hoxton, Wolf, or Chains as they try to commit heists. This bank-busting game is filled with tactical action and requires strict teamwork in order to succeed. Your team is able to pick up a variety of contracts set across a multitude of locations.
Payday 2 is a rich and deep experience, one that offers extensive customization and skill trees. You are encouraged to use load-outs and weapons that fit your play style in order to enhance them for each new heist. Payday 2 is brimming with content and still has a loyal fanbase.
6 Rainbow Six: Siege
If you are looking for a PvP experience more so than a PvE experience then look no further than Rainbow Six: Siege. Rainbow Six: Siege takes two smaller squad-based teams and pits them against each other in objective-based matches. Deeply tactical and intense, Siege will really challenge you around every corner.
This is a game where you really have to focus on teamwork and lone wolves need not apply. Communication and strategy are key to success in this game. Siege has been around for a long while now and still has a strong community.
5 Dead Space 3
Dead Space 3, while not being fondly remembered, is unique in that you can play through the game in co-op. This unique co-op experience allows you to face the Necromorph horrors with a friend in tow, despite the game not being as scary as its counterparts.
However, if you find yourself in the mood for some slightly spooky sci-fi action then Dead Space 3 certainly delivers on that front. If you are new to the series you should definitely play the first two games since they are easily the best ones.
4 The Anacrusis
The newest game on this list, The Anacrusis is what you would get if you put Left 4 Dead in space. This sci-fi multiplayer shooter tasks you and your team of quirky misfits to explore various spaceships while completing a variety of missions. The game is currently in its Game Preview state on Xbox consoles and Early Access on PC so don't expect a completely polished product.
The Anacrusis thrives off of its retro sci-fi vibes and characters. There is an undeniable charm to the game despite you taking on hordes of creepy aliens. Plus, you get to use some unique weaponry such as an electric arc ray and a laser submachine gun.
If for some reason you haven't heard of Warframe then just know it's a highly polished, action-heavy sci-fi game that is completely free-to-play. Warframe feels like a blend of an MMO, a third-person shooter, and a multiplayer action game. Your goal is to explore a vast galaxy while taking on challenging missions.
Given that Warframe has been around for years at this point, it has amassed numerous content pieces, customization items, and hundreds of hours of pure action gameplay. Getting to deck out your Warframe with mods, components, and abilities might be the best part of the game.
2 Mass Effect Series
Whether you opt to dive into the original Mass Effect games or the newer Legendary Trilogy, just know you are in for a real treat. The Mass Effect games are incredibly comprehensive and nuanced sci-fi RPGs from long-running developer Bioware. While each of the games excels in its own right, it's the first two games that are arguable the best.
In Mass Effect, you take control of Commander Shepherd and his hapless crew as they explore the vast distances of space, completing missions, leveling up, creating relationships, and taking part in fierce battles.
1 Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil 5 is certainly one of the most interesting titles in the venerable survival horror franchise. Eschewing the traditional gothic, spooky locations in favor of a sun-drenched location, Resident Evil 5 might not have as many scares, but it does offer up some excellent co-op action.
You are able to go through the entirety of Resident Evil 5's campaign in co-op with one of you playing as Chris Redfield and the other as Sheva Alomar. It's a tense affair but doesn't hit the highs of Resident Evil 4.
You can now have a proper look around the Hisui region before Legends: Arceus launches next week.
